Infinix Hot 2 Ushers in Android One to Africa

Google has announced the first Android One smartphone in Africa – the Infinix Hot 2. The device would be available across Six African countries – Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Morocco and Nigeria.

The search giant collaborated with Infinix as the hardware partner and Jumia would be responsible for selling the device on the continent. For Nigeria, MTN also joined in the fun by offering 1GB of data for N500 for buyers for the next one year.

Like the other Android One smartphones, the Infinix Hot 2 will enjoy the privilege of receiving updates directly from Google for the next two years according to Infinix’s schedule, boots Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS out-of-the-box and would get Android 6.0 Marshmallow as soon as it is available.

The total number of countries under the Android one program now totals 16 with India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Philippines, Turkey, Myanmar, Pakistan and Thailand completing the list.

The Infinix Hot 2 is available in Nigeria starting N17,500 on online e-commerce outfit, Jumia NG in Blue, Black, Red and White colour options. The 2GB RAM variant costs N19,500 and is available in Gold colour only. The device is also available on Jumia in Ghana, Morocco, Kenya, Egypt and Ivory Coast.
