We are just few weeks away from the official launch of the long awaited Samsung Galaxy S5. So many things have been said, written and recorded about this much anticipated gadget but you will agree with me that there is always an iota of truth in rumors that have to do with gadgets like this. As we are getting closer to the release of Samsung Galaxy S5, more revelations have been made which i intend to share with you in this blog post.
Galaxy S5 Screen: From all indications there wont be much increment in the screen size of Galaxy S5 compared to that of Galaxy S4 but an increase in resolution from that of Galaxy S4’s Full HD display is very likely. A Samsung roadmap showed a 2,560×1,440 resolution display on an unannounced Samsung smartphone using the model name SM-G900S and mentions 560 pixels per inch (PPI) pixel density screens, which will equal to 5.25in (screen size) based on the given resolution.
Although, we know that Samsung uses Super AMOLED technology for its flagship phones, so we should expect nothing less for the Samsung Galaxy S5 even though recent rumours suggest that Samsung may have to switch to Sharp manufactured LTPS LCD display due to the fact that Samsung might not be able to manufacture sufficient quantities of the AMOLED display.
Hey! I guess u might be asking, what about the curved screen? Hmmmm…although Samsung has all it takes to manufacture curved displays, no doubt about that but production isn’t in large volume and owing to the expected high demand the S5 is likely to have, an improved flat screen is likely to be used.
When will SAMSUNG GALAXY S5 be unveiled?
Its almost a year that the Galaxy S4 was launched, if Samsung should go by its launch cycle (1 year), it is highly predictable that the Galaxy S5 will be launched in March 2014, although we might get it earlier as Samsung’s head of design strategy confirmed in an interview that the Galaxy S5 is due to launch at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) show which will come up on 23rd February in Barcelona.
In either case, we don’t have long to wait. If the Galaxy S5 isn’t launched at MWC, we should only have to wait a matter of weeks until March to see the handset.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S5 Operating System and UI
You don’t have to be a genius to predict that the Galaxy S5 will run Android 4.4 Kitkat which is the last version of the mobile operating system.
Android 4.4 KitKat has a better cloud integration, incredibly faster multitasking. Coupled with the necessary hardware, KitKat supports voice activation without pressing a button first. Wouldn’t it be cool if u can activate your S5 by saying “Ok Galaxy” and perform a range of task without having to touch your phone. Awesome! Isn’t it? That’s more than a handsfree experience.
Recent leak from eveleaks show that Samsung will be refreshing KitKat user interface on S5, let’s hope they add some amazing features.
Galaxy S5 Processor:
After Apple launched its iPhone 5S on a 64-bit processor, Samsung’s President of System LI, Stephen Woo stepped out and said Samsung will follow Apple’s footstep by developing its own 64-bits chip. A more recent rumour has suggested that there will be 2 variants of Galaxy S5 running on 2 different processor, one will be sporting Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and the other on a 64-bit Exynos 6 CPU which will feature a 50% reduction in power consumption. In view of this, the Galaxy S5 is set to be the first Android device to support 64-bit operations.
Galaxy S5 Camera:
According to a report last year August, Samsung is working on a 16 megapixel ISOCELL sensor camera with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) which allows for correcting angular errors, increasing sharpness and reducing blur. Samsung could go to any length to improve the quality of its camera due to the tough competition from Nokia Lumia 1020 (41-megapixel) and Sony Xperia Z1 (20-megapixel).
The rumoured Samsung Galaxy S5 Eye scanner?
Remember the Smart play, Smart pause and Smart scroll on Galaxy S4? When it comes to adding extra software features, Samsung smartphones are my favorites. If the new Patent filling proves correct then expect Galaxy S5 to come with a Retina scanner.
Modern smartphones are beginning to place emphasis on security, iPhone 5s uses TouchID fingerprint sensors likewise the HTC One Max, so there is a high possibility that the Galaxy S5 will usher in a new form of smarthphone security.
Galaxy S5 build quality:
According to Korean site ET News, Samsung is to compete directly with rivals in adopting a metal rear casing, But for the Galaxy S5 I currently don’t have sufficient information about wether it will have a metal case or not. Although Samsung recently bought half of the total share of Carbon fibre specialist, this suggests that may forgo metal casing and go Carbon fibre finish instead.
ETnews also reported that the Galaxy S5 will be resistant to dust and water as we have seen in the likes of Samsung Galaxy S4 Active.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Pricing is going to be around thesame price as Galaxy S4, £600 Sim-free
